Delays are detours not cancellations

Hab 2:3 Put it in writing, because it is not yet time for it to come true. But the time is coming quickly, and what I show you will come true. It may seem slow in coming, but wait for it; it will certainly take place, and it will not be delayed. TEV

I love to travel. I feel like George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life when he says that, “the three most exciting sounds in the world are: Anchor chains, plane motors, and train whistles.”  I like the smell of diesel in a truck stop because it always reminds me of my traveling days.

This has been a great trip to North Carolina. The people of Celebration Live were very gracious and received the word with humility.  We had two powerful morning services, and a great preaching-planning retreat and tremendous fellowship.

I got here early at Charlotte-Douglas airport.  I had been concerned when I would get home. A huge snow storm slammed the east coast, again, messing up travel. Carefully, I made sure my bags were below 50 pounds and wore sweats, so I would, at least, not have to take my belt off.  The bag attendants checked my bags outside, which is always nice.  He asked me, “What is your destination?” I told him Allentown with a connection in Detroit. He took care of my bags and said "you have been rerouted thought Atlanta, your flight was canceled to Detroit."  Then, as I checked the monitors in the airports, I see that next to my flight number is the word "delayed".  But was it?  Actually, my trip was more detoured than delayed. I called my wife and  made the appropriate arrangements with her to pick me up at a  later time.  I knew no matter what or no matter how long, I would eventually get home.  Ominously, as I walked by the gate A-5 where I was supposed to go originally to Detroit, in red led letters on the information sign it says "canceled."  I saw a line of people that were not as fortunate as I was to be rerouted. They were on cell phones spouting to others about this inconvenience and making the necessary changes.

I walk up and down in the airport biding my time, tantalized by aroma of the Cinnabons' counter. Those cinnamon rolls seem to have Geico Eyes staring at me and I hear voices in my head, “you know you want me.” But self-control wins and I opt for a coffee -- at least this time.

Now I sit down to write to you with the thought,” I may be delayed, but I am not canceled.  I am recharging my phone and my computer while I wait.
With this I am reminded that sometimes it seems our dreams, visions and plans are delayed, but when they are from God they are never canceled. They are just detoured. So while you wait in your spiritual airport... sit down, recharge and write! Keep the dream alive! Remember God’s delays are not a cancellation of the vision, he is just rerouting you to the best destination.  Is it inconvenient… sure! But you can make the best of it and as it says in Habakkuk 2:3, “Put it in writing, because it is not yet time for it to come true. But the time is coming quickly, and what I show you will come true. It may seem slow in coming, but wait for it; it will certainly take place, and it will not be delayed.” TEV

God provides detours that seem like delays. There are disappointments in life that seem to set back your plans but they are actually detours. On many GPSs they have a detour button.  When you press it the device sends you a different way. This is a great feature when you hit traffic or need an alternate route because of construction. Some GPSs have a function where they can detect traffic jams and send you around them. It takes longer, but it still gets you there. Remember, God’s timing is so different than ours. What we think is a delay is just an alternative route to God’s will for our lives.  It’s not a delay, it’s a detour.

We all make mistakes large and small with all good intentions.  We do things to help people and live for God and find out we did something wrong. Did you ever forget a bill or it seemed no good act went unpunished when you helped someone and it just it blew up in your face?   Sincerity, I hope counts for something, but God, nevertheless, will provide course bypasses to get us back on track. Hit the grace button and let God get provide a way of escape. God will get us out of the ditch if you  let him. Listen to his voice and seek his word and pray for him to rescue you. You will feel a peace that everything will workout.

Keep speaking words of faith. Keeping praying for God’s mercy and grace! Keep writing down the vision and read it for it will not delay, it will happen, even though it is not like you thought it would.
I’m home now and thankful to be with my family again.  Does it seem like I was delayed? Yes, but I was just detoured.  Timing is not as important as destination.

Possessing the Vision:

Sunday, we spoke about being clear and confident in your vision.  God wants us to be specific in our personal lives. The King of Kings asks us today, “What is it that you want?”  So, we need to be clear and detailed in our requests.  You must be confident and committed to your vision. You learned that an unhealthy opinion of yourself will hinder your ability to receive what God has for you.  Playing small will always keep you from the big things God has for you.  You are not a worm and unworthy of God’s best and gracious promises. Also, you must shed your desire to be around the familiar and the comfortable to receive what God has for you.  People, who rise to dream, and strive for the vision, will receive God’s best and will often be the subject of criticism from friends and foes.

We asked the question, “what is it that you want” but we must also ask, “Do you want what you already have?  There is a thin and treacherous line between contentment and complacency.  I do not have time to confront everything but here are some thoughts.

It really troubles me that many of God’s people feel like God does not wants them to have anything in this life. Their vision is limited in finances and giving. Material goods are even evil to them.  But if that is true, why not live outside in the cold with nature?  No, the problem is what is evil to many people is abundance.  They complain about what they do not have and complain about those that do. They have no vision.  I know our life does not consist of what we possess but it does add value to it. When you ask these people “what they want” they feel it is evil to have material goods and every request has to be spiritual. What they do not realize certain religious attitudes of lack, complacency and living the average life, instead of abundant life, is not God’s will.  God is good and God is a giver.  I believe it is a lack of faith not to ask God for what we want and need.  It shows that he is not our source. The “just get by” attitude seems spiritual but it may be telling of some deeper unscriptural and religious attitudes.  However, when you live in lack it can quickly become a spiritual issue.   Are you admitting that God cannot trust you with blessing? Perhaps we are really saying, I am so sinful God cannot trust me with things.  Money is not the only resource God gives us but it is a notable one.  Remember money is amoral, but it is an amplifier for what is in your heart.  Money is not evil but the love if it is. If you give it is God’s way to keep you from greed.

People that are wealthy are evil to many today in society. Many believe that in order to be spiritual we must be like Mother Theresa living in poverty.  That is why socialism is on the rise in our country. Many people in the church and in the community see Jesus as a homeless man, on welfare, living off of people and panhandling.  They think as Christians we ought to reflect that image. But, that is a false image of our savior, just as much the portraits we see of as Jesus with a chiffon robe and blue eyes.

You see, without resources what can we do for the Kingdom?  Israel went from Egypt, a place of not enough, to the wilderness, a place of just enough, to Canaan’s land a place of more than enough. Yet Israel wanted to go back to Egypt, back to the land of not enough. Why? It is a lack of faith and vision. It takes no faith to stay where you are.  How about you?

God want to give us good things! The bible says in Romans  8:32-33 that, He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? There is not enough space to list the scriptures how God wants to give us good things.  What you don’t see with vision, you won’t believe and what you believe you won’t receive.

Lastly, if you do not want what you already have, why should God give you more?  We need to appreciate and take care of what we already have. God has given you a great family, appreciate them want them and be thankful for them.   God has also given you a great church.  Want it.  Give to the church and ministry.  Make sure you tithe and give your offering! Stop having a poverty mindset.  Have you seen the reality TV show Hoarders?   It is absolutely pitiful and disgusting to see what happens to people that feel like they have to save everything. They refuse to give anything away.   It is a sickness that finally put them in a place where they are isolated, diseased and depressed. There are “poor” and” “rich” alike that have a hoarding- poverty mindset.  When you feel like you’re blessed you give. When you feel like you “have not” you become a hoarder. We need more than enough so we can give more. What you do not have you cannot give. What you give shows what you believe about what you have.  Next time you fill an offering envelope, look up to heaven, lift up the envelope in your right hand and say, “God, this is what I think of you!”  Generous people and people who want what they have freely give to maintain and keep it.

God has given you a great pastor and first family.  Do you want them, do you love them?  When the last time you asked them what they needed?  Help them, give to them and don’t take no for an answer.   If you do not and take care of the pastor and his family are you showing them you want them?  Your pastor should be able to be an example to the people in your community of God’s blessing and goodness.  You are a channel of that blessing.  Show you want what you have by taking care of whatever it is.

Why ask God for more if you won’t take care of what you already have?   Be a person of vision! Possess what God has for you and care for it.  If your father and mother gave you something and you acted like you did not like it would they give you more?  If you always give your food to the dog after they provided and cooked it how would they feel? Tell the Lord “thank you for what I have” and watch if you loving Father will not give you more.  God wants you to be blessed! He wants your house to continue forever. Listen to 2 Samuel 7:28-29,” O Sovereign Lord, you are God! Your words are trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant.  Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, O Sovereign Lord, have spoken, and with your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever."

Daniel Fast 2011

Happy New Year everyone!  I pray this will be your best year ever in 2011!

I AM TAKING THE TIME TO SEND YOU OUT A DETAILED LETTER SO PLEASE READ THIS! A New Year is always a great time for change and new vision.  As you reassess the last year was there anything left undone?  Anything you wished you would have changed?  Remember these three things:
1.     Failure to prepare is preparing to fail.
2.     The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.
3.     You will never change your life until you change something you do daily.

Is there something you need God to do in your life that seems way beyond your ability to accomplish?  Do you need a breakthrough spiritually, financially, emotionally or physically?

I would like to invite you to fast with us this January!  “Entering into a time of prayer and fasting is like crossing a threshold into a new place. A 21-day fast positions you to experience the presence of God in your daily and hourly life. A fast means your worship isn't just in the Sunday morning pew, but in the living room of your home.”

Fast starts January 10th till January 31st 2011

Our church will fast at the beginning of 2011 so we can give the first part of the year to God.  We like to do a 21 day Daniel Fast.   So, before you get scared and think you cannot do it, just read on.
Before I explain I would like to recommend a couple of books with their link to Amazon included on the subject first is:

Daniel Fast Food List by Susan Gregory http://www.daniel-fast.com/

She has provided books and cookbooks and all kind of great stuff to assist you in your fast. http://danielfast.wordpress.com/daniel-fast-food-list/

“In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” Daniel 10:2, 3

One of the great things about the Daniel Fast is that you are not limited to any specific amount of food, but rather to the kinds of food you can eat. The Daniel Fast is limited to vegetables (includes fruits) and water.

If you want a print out of this list in brochure form to use yourself or share with others, please visit www.Daniel-Fast.com

Special Note: if you have health issues, please be sure to contact your health professional for advice before committing to any fast including the Daniel Fast. If you would like a list of the foods included and excluded in the Daniel Fast to show your doctor, just copy the contents of this page. Also, if you are interested in a collection of recipes that will take you through an entire 21-day Daniel fast, www.danielfast.com
